The Cherry Creek State Park is a popular park that houses the Cherry Creek Reservoir. This is actually Cherry Creek State Park’s central attraction. The Cherry Creek Reservoir is about 880 acres. It was built as a dam during the 1950s to act as a flood control tool. Cherry Creek State Park is situated on the southeast portion of Denver; which would make it 12 straight miles from the downtown area. The entrance is along 4201 S. Parker Road, Aurora. Thus, Cherry Creek State park is about 4,200 acres approximately; and draws more than 1.5 million tourists annually. The park admission only costs about $6 up to $7 for each vehicle. The park boasts of a lot of fun activities for the whole family. This would go for its nature trails to its various water sports activities in summer. During the winter, ice boating, ice fishing and ice skating are some of the activities they take pride of. In summer, you can take part in water skiing, fishing, boating and
swimming activities. Aside fro their nature trails, the park also has a model airplane field, and a dog training area along with a Jet Ski rental facility, paved runways, rifle range, trap shooting area and a pistol range among others.

Moreover, they have 12 miles of paved actual bicycle paths; and 12 miles of actual bridle trails. For the bridle trails, they offer horse rentals and it would circle around the reservoir. If needed, the rangers of Cherry Creek State Park also provide guided walks and evening campfires along their amphitheater; but this is only by appointment.

Cherry Creek State Park has about 102 campsites that have access to the park’s showers, dump stations and laundry facilities. There are also sites that guarantee full hookups for water and electricity. Hence, for those who prefer to use the park in the daytime, the areas of the park near the lakeshore have grills and picnic tables.
