The Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets is one of the popular teams in the NBA. In the year 1938, the original amateur Nuggets were created as members of the Amateur Athletic Union. Their playing coach at that time was the acclaimed “Jumping Jack” McCracken.
“Jumping Jack” McCracken led the Denver Nuggets to success. From then on, the Denver Nuggets became one of most dominant amateur athletic basketball teams in the country.
In 1939, they won the AAU championship. However, they lost their championship trophy in 1940. This is when they competed with the Phillips 66ers of Oklahoma. Throughout their contract, all players were given an extra job. This is through the team’s sponsors who gave the Denver Nuggets their all out supporty, even if it seemed that the team never played professionally.
The Denver Nuggets are noted to have at played at the popular Auditorium Arena, and at the present Ellie Caulkins opera House. The Nuggets continued to stay strong, showing off their AAU power all throughout their existence in the basketball division.
Moreover, the Denver Nuggets featured stars like Robert Ace Gruenig, Vince Boryla, and McCracken. Aside from this, AAU has been accredited by the historians. This actually placed Denver in the map of national sports.
The Nuggets was even awarded by the National Basketball League or NBL for being the first skilled basketball franchise which became popular to the people. In 1949, the NBL combines with BBL and became National Basketball Association or NBA. This time, the Denver Nuggets became one of the NBA teams.
The Denver Nuggets, NBA’s westernmost team, was led by the player and coach of the team. This is the ever famous Jimmy Darden. He is a shooting guard. He joined the amateur Nuggets after he left his memories of being in the veteran army during World War II in 1946. The Nuggets played in the NBA for one season. The game was gathered by the Western Division, of course. This is with an 11-51 record. Thus, the team got divided last 1950.In 1974, they gave a new nickname to the team, they became known as the Denver Rockets. After which they tried to join the NBA once again, following the Houston Rockets.
Thus, the original name of Denver’s team in the NBA as a franchise succeeded, which the team carried as their name ever since. In 1985, Vince Boryla, an amateur star of the Denver Nuggets, joined the team. Years later, he sucessfully became the General Manager and President. He was even awarded by the NBA as the Executive of the Year.
Lastly, from the years 1985 up to 1988, he maintained his position as the General Manager and President of the Denver Nuggets. Thus, in Denver’s history, the Nuggets who started in the Auditorium Arena, which is a basketball court that can only accommodate 6,841 people are now legendary personalities in the field of basketball. The original team played in the Auditorium Arena from 1967 up to 1975.
