Red Rocks Park

Denver Red Rocks Park
The Red Rocks Park in Jefferson County is a renowned mountain park of Colorado. It is Denver city who maintains and owns this park. In fact, it is an amazing portion of the Denver Mountain Parks. Tourists are attracted to the Red Rocks Park because of its large boulders that has a red sandstone feature. They even provided names for these fascinating formations. Examples would be the famous inclined Cave of the 7 Ladders and the amazing mushroom-shaped Seat of Pluto. Amongst all these rock formations, the most visited would be the ones surrounding their amphitheater. This would be the Creation Rock, the Ship Rock and the Stage Rock.

Thus, the red sandstone formations that were found throughout Red Rocks Park were geologically identified to belong to the famous Fountain Formation. The geology of the Fountain Formation would include other Colorado sites like the Garden of the Gods, which is in close proximity to Colorado Springs; the Roxborough State Park; and the fascinating Flatirons, which is very near Boulder. Hence, these rocks were supposedly formed millions of years ago. It would be around 290 up to 296 million years, as an approximate figure.
This was during the actual Pennsylvanian epoch; where in the so-called Ancestral Rocky Mountains eroded. This later on became uplifted during the actual Laramide orogeny; which tilted these rocks at an angle they now have up to this day.

Thus, it is also the previous favorite campsite of a tribe called the “Ute”. In fact, the earliest name given to the Red Rocks Park was the “Garden of Angels”. This was given by the renowned Colorado pioneer judge, Martin Van Buren Luther; last July 4, 1870. Last 1906, this was changed to “Garden of the Titans” by John Brisben Walker; a famed editor at that time. This was when the proceeds of his sale for his Cosmopolitan Magazine were used to purchase the property. Red Rocks Park was formerly known by its folk name, Red Rocks, ever since the area was actually settled. The name Red Rocks Park was only formally given when Denver was able to acquire it last 1928.

Apart from the various rock formations you will see in the area, you will also be amazed with the Red Rocks Amphitheater. This is a renowned venue that hosts numerous events and concerts within Red Rocks Park. Moreover, if you were able to watch the Amazing Race 9 during the spring season of 2006; the Starting Line and the Finish Line was shot in Red Rocks Park.
